Skull Eclipses

Something magical can happen when a rapper entrusts a single producer with the task of crafting a whole album. When the chemistry works, it teases new dimension from each party.

As Skull Eclipses, critically-acclaimed Philly emcee Lushlife and trailblazing Austin producer Botany have found just such a connection.

Their upcoming long-player explores the anxieties of modern life against a tapestry of alternately enormous percussion and ambient textures. Like all the best hip-hop collaborations, it feels greater than the sum of its parts. With this album, Botany has built a universe where contributions from the likes of Open Mike Eagle and members of Shabazz Palaces easily rub shoulders with the cosmic zither of Brian Eno collaborator, Laraaji. All the while, Lushlife offers personal and surrealistic accounts of life here in the modern world – taking on Islamophobia, techno-futurism, and late-stage capitalism in equal measure.
